Tidal: What Is It?

TIDAL is a subscription-based music streaming service that offers high definition audio for millions of songs.  The service has actually got over 25 million tracks and 75,000 music videos.

TIDAL was launched in 2014 by Swedish public company Aspiro AB. In early 2015, the parent company Aspiro was bought by Project Panther Ltd., which is owned by Jay Z. It has been set up to rival other music streaming sites such as Spotify.

As of March 2015, the service had approximately 550,000 paying users.

At the launch on Monday 30th March, artists including Jay Z, Beyonce, Rihanna, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Daft Punk, Calvin Harris and Madonna launched the platform with the slogan “Turn the Tide”. The idea is that the artists will own the streaming platform rather than business executives, etc. and in turn, the artists will have full control and take home a greater percentage of the profits.

You can get a free months trial of Tidal on their website and listen to it for £9.99 a month after that.
