lookalikes

VIPs Zlatan Ibrahimović and Cara Delevingne were in Leeds recently for publicity photoshoots – at least, that’s what students in Headingley and shoppers in Leeds thought.

The model and footballer were actually lookalike actors hired by Trinity Leeds shopping centre for a film ahead of its Student Night event this Tuesday.

Stunned students watched as ’Zlatan’ posed for photographers at a spoof energy drink launch outside Arc in Headingley, then performed keepie-uppies on the grass before being driven away in a black Ferrari.

Meanwhile in Trinity Leeds, shoppers gathered to watch as a Cara Delevingne lookalike modelled clothes for a photoshoot.

Dan Wharton, Marketing Manager at Trinity Leeds, said: “We wanted to create a fun film to show that, unlike the two hired lookalike actors, our Student Night discounts are absolutely the ‘real deal’.

“It was incredible to see the reactions of onlookers as they thought they were watching one of the world’s most recognisable footballers mixing with students in Headingley – he even signed autographs and posed for selfies.”

Student Night, which last year attracted 25,000 students, takes place on Tuesday 27 September 2016 from 6:30pm-10:30pm at Trinity Leeds. More than 80 shops will be offering student discounts of up to 50% for one night only.

*Watch the reactions from onlookers in Leeds as ‘Zlatan Ibrahimović’ cruises the streets of Headingley in a Ferrari 612 F1 Scaglietti and Cara Delevingne struts through Trinity Leeds: https://www.facebook.com/TrinityLeeds/videos/1157080154337563/

Best Places to Buy Designer Labels

Looking for designer shops in Leeds? Then you’ve come to the right place, because we’ve rounded up the best places to pick up those highly coveted labels.

If you’re looking to splash out, the designer stores of Leeds will only be too happy to oblige. So head into the city centre, where you’ll find everything from fashion to accessories, jewellery and homeware – or venture a little further afield to benefit from the slashed prices of the designer outlet.

The Victoria Quarter

As well as being one of the city’s finest landmarks with its beautiful Victorian shopfronts and colourful stained glass roof, which is the work of Brian Clarke and holds the record as the biggest of its kind in the UK, The Victoria Quarter boasts some of Leeds’ best designer stores.

Inside, you can browse the wares of some of the world’s finest designers, with Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith and Louis Vuitton among them. But it’s not just fashion, you’ll find expert jewellers, high end homeware and luxury opticians too.

The Victoria Quarter, 4 Cross Arcade, Victoria Quarter, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 6AZ.

Harvey Nichols

If you like all your designer labels, all in one place, you need only seek out Harvey Nichols’ Leeds store. You’ll find it on Briggate, the city’s busiest shopping street, and it’s absolutely filled with big names.

The Leeds shop is big, with five floors of designer goodness for you to explore. The ground floor holds accessories and beauty, while upstairs on the first and second floors, you’ll find yourself surrounded by high end ladies fashion from the likes of Victoria by Victoria Beckham, Elizabeth & James, Nicole Farhi and Gucci. Go up again to browse men’s labels from big names like Dolce & Gabbana, Versace and Hugo Boss. Finally, the top floor promises luxurious eats with their restaurant and food store.

Harvey Nichols, 107-111 Briggate, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 6AZ.

Flannels

Nestled on Vicar Lane, Flannels is in an up and coming area of Leeds, with the new Victoria Gate development rising behind it. And the two will be well matched, both offering a plethora of designers, all under one roof.

You’re looking at some really big names here. There’s Moschino, Kenzo, Alexander McQueen, Versace and Armani for the lads, and Cavalli, Max & Moi, Michael Kors and Gestuz for the ladies. With Michelin Starred restaurant The Man Behind the Curtain upstairs, ready for a post-shopping bite, you can have the ultimate luxury shopping experience.

Flannels, 68-78 Vicar Lane, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 7JH.

York Designer Outlet

Although you won’t find a designer outlet in Leeds, you can still get your hands on a host of cut-priced labels if you’re willing to take a jaunt over to York. Here you’ll find McArthurGlen’s York Designer Outlet, which boasts a massive array of designer labels, with the likes of Ted Baker, Lacoste, Levi’s and Michael Kors all in on the action.

And of course, the beauty of York Designer Outlet is that it’s all on sale for a fraction of the usual price. So even if you have to pay for petrol or train tickets, you’ll likely save more than you spend.

York Designer Outlet, St. Nicholas Avenue, Fulford, York, North Yorkshire, YO19 4TA.

Hazel Latner brings you her latest beauty tips!

I am a self-proclaimed skin care junkie and the ultimate fake tan fan. You really do have to get both of these things right to achieve the perfectly bronzed look you want. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t see a new product I want to go and spend an entire weeks wage on, but I really think I now know enough about my own skin to know what really works. Once you find the right products you always return to them, so I would like to share with you my skin care staples – these are things I would probably take out with me if the house was on fire. Then I’ll move on to my fake tan favorites.

Ok so I guess I’ll start with Clarins, I honestly use something from their range every single day. Why? Because their products are absolutely amazing! When I went in for the first time as my skin was really dry and nothing really was helping, the lovely sales assistant offered me a free mini counter facial. It’s an amazing way to sample some of their products, you will get a consultation before hand so all the products used will be perfect for you. What is also amazing is the amount of free samples they give you to try at home, some of their products are pricey so it is really good to see if you think it will be worth it. Well I was given around 12 samples and these are my must haves so far.

The Hydraquench moisturiser is fab, I use it every single day, it makes my skin feel amazing and also has SPF 15 so it also protects you against harmful UV rays. It is £35 but it honestly lasts ages and combats any dry patches you may have without feeling greasy in the slightest. Definitely 10 out of 10 from me on this one.

Next is something I thought I would never use- The Blue Orchid treatment facial oil. It never even entered my mind but now I would actually freak out if I couldn’t apply it every night. I wrongly assumed that putting oil on your face would make it break out in spots but I felt and saw the results of this oil after one nights application. Your skin will be baby soft and look as if you’ve just been for an expensive facial. My boyfriend even said first thing in the morning how nice my skin looks… Usually that’s the last thing I expect to hear when I wake up.

I also love face masks and salon facials, your face is the first thing people see so it’s something worth investing in. I probably get microdermabrasion once a month, its brilliant how a treatment so quick can make such a difference. (Usually it only takes between 30-40 minutes) It is a deep exfoliation treatment which can turn skin that is feeling dull and drab into bright smooth skin in an instant. I usually would buy a course as it works out cheaper but sites like Groupon often have deals on these facials so it’s worth checking those out as well.

I also use a facemask at home when I fancy a nice bath and a pamper, I do like a couple of different ones depending on how my skin is feeling that week. If I feel like my pores are blocked up or I’m getting a slight break out I go straight to Avons Clearskin Pore Penetrating Black Mineral Mask, it is a bargain at only £3 and doesn’t dry out your skin like some masks can do. If you want something a little more exfoliating but again doesn’t irate your skin Lush Mask of Magnaminty is perfect, I love using this mask as it leaves a tingly clean feeling that you can feel working with your skin. I am a massive Lush fan anyway, the smell of all their products is beautiful and this is no exception.

So moving on to tan, like most girls I feel my best when I am a golden brown colour but unfortunately I don’t live abroad and I’m anti sunbeds which means that over the years I think I have used every single fake tan product on the market. I’m sure we have all had our previous streaky orange experiences in the past but I now have a couple of favorites which I think give the best colour.

The Tan On Demand 2 Hour Tanning Mousse is one slightly newer to me in the past year or so but I really wish I had discovered it sooner! What is amazing is that it gives a really dark colour without having to sleep in the product over night therefore it doesn’t ruin your clothes or bedding. It is streak free and even though it develops into a dark colour it still looks really natural, I have used it before photo shoots as it photographs really well and it is one I frequently get complimented on. You can purchase some by clicking this link http://www.diamonds-on-demand.co.uk/2-hour-tanning-mousse/ I have had so many friends also rave about this tan as well so I’m sure you will too.

Another tan I can’t live without is Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs, it makes your legs look absolutely flawless. If you have never used it before go out and buy some immediately. You can thank me later. It’s a quick fix, its kind of like having makeup for you body. Its not a daily tan product but its nice for special occasions when you know you want to look your best.

Now back to Clarins surprise, surprise! I always find that my face is always a couple of shades lighter than my body so I’ve become addicted to Clarins Instant Smooth Self Tanning. It isn’t as strong as a usual fake tan so you can apply it daily before you use your makeup, its got a very luxurious texture which melts into the skin, smoothing out the skin and any pores you may have. It isn’t heavy at all and just gives a very subtle golden glow. It’s pretty much like a self tanning primer and like a lot of Clarins products a little goes a long way so definitely worth sampling for yourself.

Well that’s a slight insight to some of my tanning and skincare must haves I probably could have gone on forever but I’d tried to get it in a nutshell for you, I may come back with some other favourites in the future. If you have any recommendations or questions please tweet me, I would love to hear from you. x x

Coast’s New Trouser Style Collection – AW15

For the turning of the season towards AW15, fashion retailer Coast have released a collection of new trouser styles for the transitional season, including the ever classic slim leg, a modern take on the retro wide leg, a fashion forward peg leg and comfortable leggings.

Slim Leg

With 42% of women stating that this is their favourite style to wear, the slim leg trouser is always going to be a staple in a woman’s wardrobe with the ability to be paired with almost anything.

  • Ideal for the office, a skinny trouser will slim and elongate the leg. Wear with a tailored blazer and court shoes for a sophisticated and professional look.
  • Coast’s jacquard denim slim leg trousers are perfect worn with a pair of killer heels for a night out.
  • Dress down a pair of slim leg trousers by choosing a cropped pair with flats for a retro look.

Peg Leg

Peg leg trousers are a key style silhouette this season, tapering in at the ankle and draping over the hips. Despite their popularity, they can be a tricky piece to style up. Try one of the following:

  • Tucking in a loose fitting top to highlight your waist will help balance out your look.
  • Choose a bedazzled sequin pair of peg leg trousers with pointed toe heels for a super stylish Christmas party look.
  • Take high waisted peg legs from office appropriate to evening glam by wearing a boxy crop top covered with a tailored jacket and adding statement accessories to take you through to night.

Leggings

Coast’s legging style trousers are perfect for a comfortable close fit, with thicker fabric to keep you warm as we enter winter. Here are a few suggestions for how to style up leggings:

  • With a fitted bottom half, go for a loose, flowing top half. A tunic top or draped cardigan is ideal for this look.
  • Over the knee boots are set to be big for AW15 and paired with leggings create a perfect edgy daytime look.
  • Pair leggings with strappy heels for a night out with the girls.
  • Keep up to date with the trend this autumn with Coast’s collection of 70s inspired wide leg trousers. Find it hard to figure out what to wear so you look more fashion forward than throwback? Here are a few ideas:
  • Take a twist on the traditional and pair flats with culottes for an updated look.
  • For effortless chic, tuck a fitted top into a pair of high waisted wide leg trousers to balance out proportions and elongate your legs.
  • Go classic by slipping into a pair of stilettos with floor skimming flares.

Post-Festival Skin

The festival season is well and truly upon us. Some festivals have already taken place (such as Glastonbury, Tramlines, Benicassim), but there are still many upcoming events like Leeds/Reading, Bestival, you get the gist. These epic music scenes are the place to be in the summer, with the sun shining, drinks happily flowing, perhaps a cheeky cigarette or two, and there’s no excuse not to because it’s the perfect time to enjoy yourself and worry later.

When ‘later’ rolls around though, you realise that you should’ve probably taken better care of your skin. Some of the biggest causes for breakouts and bad skin include drinking too much alcohol (and with that, not drinking enough water), lack of sleep and hygiene, and the most detrimental factor for women, leaving your makeup on while you sleep. Did you know that each night you leave your makeup on your face, your skin ages by 7 days? Well, you do now. So when your skin is looking a bit worse for wear, here are 3 great products (two cleansers and one surprise), which will revitalise your post-festival skin, whatever your budget.

1. BUDGET CLEANSER:The Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Oil

I realise that cleansing oils and creams that melt with your body heat are all the rage right now, especially when it comes to removing makeup. The reason why we love them so much is that they get rid of most, if not all, dirt and grime, whilst being gentle and natural enough that they don’t irritate the skin. That’s why Body Shop’s Cleansing Oil is great if you want a daily cleanser, since it’s very moisturising, just what you need after a few days of dehydration. It is scented, but that’s never been an issue for my sensitive skin with this oil, and it even removes the most stubborn of waterproof makeup. Winner!
£11.00/200ml

2. HIGH-END CLEANSER: Pai Skincare Camelia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser

I’m a firm believer that you get what you pay for. Of course, its great finding cheaper alternatives of high-end products, but this is one skincare item that I have yet to find an exact dupe for. Pai’s Gentle Hydrating Cleanser is something that’s utterly unique, as Pai avoid any chemicals that dry out the skin, such as alcohol denat and fragrances that can irritate sensitive skin. However, they still managed to make a seriously creamy cleanser that, unlike others, still moisturises the skin even after being wiped away with a muslin cloth. That’s because this cleanser doesn’t just work on the skin’s surface, but goes deeper to thoroughly replenish your skin. It’s a must-have for a quick, festival-skin fix!
£38.00/200ml

3. ALL-IN-ONE KIT: REN Perfect Skincare Regime Exclusive Kit

We all love an easy skincare routine, right? If you’re at a festival, its pointless wasting time on a long regimen when you’re itching to see your favourite bands and eat some good grub. Something quick and easy to use is essential, and that’s why REN’s offering would be a great option. The kit includes five products, which are perfect for dehydrated, acne-prone skin: the Rose Centifolia Cleansing Gel (150ml); V-Cense Youth Vitality Day Cream (15ml); Micro Polish Cleanser (30ml); V-Cense Revitalising Night Cream (5ml); and Keep Young & Beautiful Eye Cream (3ml). It’s great for travelling purposes, as the items are of smaller sizes (except for the full size cleansing gel), but that’s what makes it a great kit if perhaps you want to try more of REN’s great products, or you just don’t want to commit to one thing until you test it out. And when its at a great price like this, running out and buying it ASAP is definitely the best option.

Till next time!
Ruby

Charley

Make-up obsessive & Kardashian lover Charley has joined the Leeds Student Dweller team to help us all with those beauty problems and questions in her fashion, beauty and lifestyle blog.

Make-up can sometimes be a right pain. We’ve all been there and made the obvious mistakes- trying to even out eyeliner and ending up looking like a panda-meets-Marylin-Manson, sneezing after perfecting mascara, leaving the house with an orange face and a white neck, oh how the list goes on.

To help make mornings easier (when you can’t really be bothered putting your Pat Mcgrath head on) here are some quick and easy make-up hacks…

1) Concealer is everything

If you feel a bit worse for wear on a morning, cover up those dark circles using a salmon-based concealer and apply, in a triangular shape, to your under-eyes. If you don’t have dark circles, apply a lighter shade of concealer in a triangular shape to give your eyes a clean-cut, bright finish.

To clean up your brows, liner and lipstick, use a concealer that’s slightly lighter than your skin tone, apply around the edges of brows and lips (or underneath eyeliner) and blend, blend, blend. Use the power of Google for some fab examples.

2) Priming is more important than you think.

There are sooooo many primers on the market these days, and until you try one you probably won’t know any different- but when you do you won’t look back. Primers are the key to long-lasting, shine-free make-up, and come in all different shapes and sizes to suit any skin type.

3) No more lipstick on teeth

It’s annoying when you have Monroe-worthy lipstick, but then half of it ends up on your front teeth. This one sounds weird, however… place some cling film around your finger, put your finger in your mouth, close your lips tightly around it and then pull it out. The excess lipstick will have stuck to the film. Voila!

4) Tape

A strip of sticky tape is the secret to super-straight eye make-up. Stick a strip diagonally under your eye and apply the eye make-up as normal. This will keep all of the shadow/liner perfectly straight for a killer smokey eye.

5) Long-lasting lips

For a matte finish, apply your favourite lipstick as normal, place a square of tissue over the your lips to blot, and then finish by brushing on some translucent setting powder. This will hold the colour all day (or near enough).

6) Bigger pout

To create the illusion of plumper lips, pat some concealer onto the centre of the top and bottom lip and  then draw on lines (as pictures below) using a lipstick or liner. Blend, and finish by applying a clear gloss. This is a tutorial I’ve seen many of times on Instagram,  and it really works!

Bigger Pout!

7) Thicker brows

Give your eyebrows some volume by brushing the hairs backwards using an eyebrow comb soaked in hairspray. Afterwards, gently brush back into place and then carry on with your usual brow routine.

8) Set everything…always

A setting spray and/or powder keeps everything in place. There’s no point in spending forever and a day perfecting your make-up, to then leave the house and let it all slip off your face. Don’t forget to set.

9) Highlight & contour

You’re probably already more than aware of the powers that highlighting and contouring has- it can completely transform your face. There are hundreds of amazing Youtube videos worth watching, all step-by-step ‘how to’s’  on contouring your face to perfection. BaryM’s powder contour kit is amazing value for price and if perfect for sculpting your face (if you’re like me and can’t justify spending £40 on a creme contour kit).

10) Natural lighting is the best lighting

Have you ever had it where you think your contour is on par with Kim K’s, then you step outside only to realise that you actually look like an Oompah Loompah? Yeah, me too.

Natural lighting important for make-up application, an easy tip is to apply your make-up, using a vanity mirror, facing towards natural light. Even just checking your make up in good lighting before you head out is a good way of staying clear of orange foundations lines.

11) Enhance eye make-up

If you are applying a bright coloured eye shadow, apply some light concealer to your eye-lid before hand- this will help enhance the colour of the shadow.

12) Absorb before applying powder

If you have oily skin, you probably carry a matte powder around with you at all times. When you’d usually top-up with powder, use a tissue to absorb the oil on your skin before doing so. Pat the tissue onto your face gently, remove, and then apply powder as normal. This helps to prevent a foundation-oil-powder sandwich, leaving you with fresher skin for longer.

13) No more dry lips

Using a textured cloth rinsed in hot water, rub your lips (not too harsh, but not softly) to get rid of any dry skin. Pat dry and apply lip balm- not only will you have baby smooth lips but you’ll also up your lip-size game to level Kylie. Try it!

14) Clean mascara application

Mascara is a bugger for getting all over your eyelids. Use a spoon or an old credit card, place it behind the eyelashes and apply your mascara as normal. This will catch any excess mascara blobs that would usually ruin your fabulously blended shadow and your day.

15) All over glow

As it’s nearly summer, heavy foundation is usually a no-go. Mix a liquid or loose powder highlighter with a BB cream or light foundation for a natural, all-over glow.

Hope this helps! Thanks for reading-
